SEND Opportunity

Dear Parent/Carers,

I would like to make you aware of the following information I have received from North Yorkshire County Council about some Special Education Needs or Disabilities (SEND) consultation events they are running in November.  The information I received was:

‘During September and October we have been holding events with parents and carers to provide an opportunity to talk about the support that is needed for children and young people around SEND provision.  This input is helping to inform the strategic plan for the county.  To build on this feedback we have planned some further events for parents and carers during November 2017.  These events will provide an update on progress, which has been informed by the feedback from across the county.  They will also include information about proposals being suggested for the Strategic Plan.

This is a further opportunity for parents and carers to be involved and provide feedback before formal consultation begins in early 2018.  Parents and carers don’t need to register for the events below, please just join us.’

The closest one to us is being held at Selby Town Hall on 20th November from 12:30 – 14:30.

Further information can be found on the NYCC website at the following link

Jade Cuttle, Former Student – Music Success!

It was great to hear from Jade this week, with news of her forthcoming album and hoping to pursue a music career following her studies at Homerton College, Cambridge.  Jade enthused ” I would definitely not be where I am today if Barlby wasn’t so set on its ‘enjoy believe achieve’ mantra, aiming high with strong definitely second that! It’s a perfect motto.”

Jade is currently focussing on building her profile in the local area playing gigs.  She is working hard with the help of the BBC Music Introducing … There are many more BBC Introducing poetic-folk sessions planned for 2017, hopefully some big festivals, so please support her if there’s an event near you! Thank you for visiting our website.  We are an 11-16 years school that takes pride in knowing all our students as individuals and allowing them to flourish.  As a school we believe we are small enough to care, and big enough to make a difference.

We have excellent facilities for a small school, particularly in our specialist area of sport, with a new 3G Astro Turf, Sports Hall, Dance Studio, Gym and Swimming Pool.  We use our sport specialism to inspire our students to be the best they can be.

With record results and a highly motivated team of staff, brilliant students and very supportive parents I am very excited about the new academic year.

World Book Day Thursday 3rd March 2016

Thursday 3rd March saw students from Barlby High School celebrating books and reading like never before to mark World Book Day.  In partnership with volunteers from Barlby Library, the students read the first Harry Potter novel from beginning to end in a 3-day Readathon. Coupled with other enjoyable activities to support and improve reading and Literacy across the school, the event proved extremely successful.  Headteacher Tony Rawdin said ‘the importance of Literacy cannot be underestimated and I am delighted that so many of our students and staff show a thirst for books and reading’.  The school and Barlby Library will continue their links with joint projects throughout the year.

Christmas Concert 15th December

We played to a full crowd just before Christmas with an evening of music, carols and Christmas readings from students.  Well done to all those who took part playing an instrument, signing, producing programmes, painting the back drops, provided refreshments or helped in any other way.  It was a lovely evening and showed the vast array of talent within our students.

Huge congratulations to year 11 boys football team for WINNING the North Yorkshire U16s County Cup final

We are immensely proud of the boys for winning a hard fought game against Norton School on 22nd April.  The game was very close but the boys held their nerve and made the school and their coach Mr Metcalfe incredibly proud.  The boys have worked hard all season and this win against other North Yorkshire schools is testament to their commitment and hard work against excellent opposition.

Mr Hannan, Headteacher said “this is a fantastic achievement – for a school our size to be champions is truly exceptional.  It was an excellent team performance and they all deserve huge credit.”
